1. Dependents of Students:

One of the most noteworthy changes is the decision to no longer allow spouses or dependents of students to enter the UK on a dependent visa, effective from January 24, 2023. However, it’s essential to note that students enrolled in research or Ph.D. programs have an exception to this rule.

The 5-Step Guide to Securing Your UK Student Visa

Now that we’ve covered the recent changes, let’s explore the comprehensive 5-step guide to obtaining your UK student visa:

Step 1: Choose Your Course and Obtain an Offer

The journey begins with choosing the right course at a UK universities and colleges. Research thoroughly, consider your academic goals, and evaluate the institutions that align with your aspirations. Once you’ve made your choice, apply to the university, and wait for an offer of admission. Upon receiving the offer, you’ll also get a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) letter from the university.

Step 2: Apply Through UCAS (Universities and Colleges Admissions Service)

UCAS is your gateway to applying for most undergraduate courses in the UK. UCAS charge GBP 20 to 25 for application to single or multiple universities. You also need to write a personal statement in about 500 words describing why you want to study in the particular university, your personal statement make a big impact in the application process and make sure you stand out among the students of similar backgrounds. It streamlines the application process, making it more efficient and accessible. Gather all the required documents, including your CAS letter, academic transcripts, and English language proficiency certificates, and submit your application through UCAS.

Step 3: Pay the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS)

Before applying for your UK student visa, you must pay the Immigration Health Surcharge. This fee covers your access to the UK’s National Health Service (NHS) during your stay. Make this payment online and keep a record of your IHS reference number, as you will need it for your visa application.

Step 4: Complete the Visa Application

With your CAS letter and IHS payment confirmation in hand, you’re ready to start your visa application. The process is primarily online, and you’ll need to provide the necessary documentation, including your academic qualifications, proof of funds, and a valid passport.

If you are accepted to a full degree program, you will require a tier-4 (General) student visa. After this, you must pay UK student visa free GBP 384 per person.
